  • The Chicago Sun Times ranked Washington Gifted School 5th in the State based on ISAT scores for Spring, 2007 – Grades 6 & 8.


 

  • One of our Teachers was selected by the Federal Department of Education to spend one week in New York in the Summer of 2008 to study American history.


 

  • Two Teachers presented at the National Gifted Conference


 

  • Kiwanis Club and PFT Teacher of the Year Award


 

  • Outdoor Prairie Classroom Grant from Lowe’s awarded to revitalize prairie plot


 

  • Teacher won the Outstanding Teacher Award from Woodruff High School

Math Counts

·        2nd Place in the Central Illinois Regional Contest

·        2nd Place in the Peoria County Contest

Science Olympiad

·        5th Grade Team placed 1st in State, 5th in Nation (out of 227 teams)

  • 6th Grade Team placed 1st in State, 15th in Nation (out of 228 teams)


  • 7th/8th Grade Team placed 1st  in State, 10th in Nation (out of 182 teams)


 

 

 

ISU Science Symposium  (This competition is for High schools –WGS is the only Middle School invited to its competition.)

  • 15 student projects selected for symposium

Each Washington graduate will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate all aspects of his/her giftedness in an academic context.

Vision Statement
    We believe that every child should be educated to his or her fullest potential.  In doing this we must provide programs, which will challenge our most capable students.  Washington School is committed to serving the special needs of intellectually gifted students with educational opportunities that are  qualitatively different.  The program is based on the belief that the special needs of intellectually gifted students require curriculum and instruction that emphasize critical thinking and creative problem solving.  All students will be provided appropriate and adequate opportunities to do the following:

Demonstrate a core base knowledge in all areas of learning. 
Correlate knowledge and skills in all academic areas. 
Exhibit responsibility as self-directed learners in the classroom and on an         
   independent basis.   
Demonstrate positive self-concepts with a sense of social awareness in a pluralistic
   society.
